ANGELUS, CHRONO-DATOLUXE, CHRONOGRAPH DOCTOR’S WATCH

ICONEEK price: SOLD

Iconeek is proud to introduce here one of the most wanted model from Angelus manufactory: The Chrono-Datoluxe

In 1948, Angelus launches a new chronograph movement, the 27 mm (12 lines) calibre SF250 with 30-minute counter. This development paves the way for the brand’s masterpiece, the Chrono-Datoluxe. The Chrono-Datoluxe, such as the present watch, is the world’s first series chronograph featuring a digital date display. For trained eyes, the design is very similar to the iconic Patek Philippe ref. 1518. The Chrono-Datolux was also the first wristwatch chronograph with a large 2-digit date, in fact two discs, co-axial, with arabic numerals in an aperture at 12, and in line with the indication of the day.  Cherry on the cake, the dial also features a moon phase indication at 6 o’clock. Angelus also made non-chronograph calendar watches both with moon phases, the Datoluxe model, and without, the Dato 12 model derived from the Chrono-Datoluxe calendar complication. The famous brand was re-launched recently, and the caliber SF250 re-introduced in a Favre Leuba chronograph model.

The Chrono-Datoluxe is without any doubts the brand masterpiece.  Angelus was founded by the brothers Albert and Gustav Stolz in 1891, in Le Locle. The Stolzes had studied under Henri Sandoz of the Tavannes Watch Company, and began their own company at a time when the watch business was booming. In the coming decades they established Angelus as a respected maker of both watches and watch movements. By the 1930s, its chronographs had become a major part of the business, and would become the brand’s most renowned creations.

The present watch is not only an awesome end of 1940s chronograph with column wheel, but also a superb example of one of the earliest manufacture to propose large date. Discerning collectors will notice the gold plated case, not usually seen, and more interesting,  the present watch is fitted with a very unusual Pulsometer scale, graduated 30 pulsations.

A very cool and unusual doctor’s watch from Angelus!
