The present pendule d’Audience is described and illustrated in Antide Janvier, The Celestial Clockmaker, by Michel Hayard, lelivredart edition, pages 288 & 289, and features a very specific dial, whose dimensions are also unusual. The central hand, with arrow shape in blued steel, makes a complete rotation in six hours on an engraved silvered ring, with three concentric graduations, inner one from 1 to 6 o'clock, the other outer one from 7 to 12, a 5-minute division in between. The silvered subsidiary dial, at 12 o'clock, is graduated from 1 to 10 minutes, indicating the time of the audience in minutes. Like a subscription watch, with a little practice you can tell the time to the minute.

Antide Janvier (1751 - 1835) was a French astronomer and master watchmaker. He is one of the most famous watchmakers, particularly for his spheres and planets. With Ferdinand Berthoud, Jean-André Lepaute and Robert Robin, he was one of the great Paris watchmakers who contributed to the development of building clocks and was notably attached to the services of Louis XVI.
Marechal Ney, Michel Ney (1769 – 1815), 1st Prince de la Moskowa, 1st Duke of Elchingen was a French military commander and Marshal of the Empire who fought in the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.
