A true watchmaking icon, the Royal Oak Jumbo, Ref. 5402ST, continues to excite collectors in its original vintage version or in its contemporary interpretations. The watch presented here is part of the D series, produced between 1978 and 1989, of which a total of 404 pieces were sold, with serial numbers ranging from D1000 to D1410.

With its serial number D1249, this watch was made in 1980 and sold in 1981, the year in which only 86 other pieces were issued. Connoisseurs will immediately be struck by its dial, which has naturally patinated over time to take on a very uniform cocoa brown color, known as "tropical", further accentuating the tapestry pattern of the dial. We thank the Audemars Piguet Heritage Department for their help. For a note about Ref. 5402ST, see lot 53.

Superb in its lines and condition, mythical in its history and unique in its patina, this watch will delight any avid collector.
