The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Reference 5402SA is a significant model in the Royal Oak lineage, introduced in 1977 as the first two-tone variant, combining stainless steel and 18K yellow gold, with an ardoise dial. This model followed the original all-steel Royal Oak Ref. 5402ST from 1972 and the all-gold Ref. 5402BA. The 5402SA maintained the iconic 39mm "Jumbo" case and integrated bracelet design by Gérald Genta, featuring a slate grey "tapisserie" dial with yellow gold hour markers and hands. Powered by the ultra-thin automatic Caliber 2121, the 5402SA was produced in limited numbers, with approximately 951 units made between 1977 and 2002, making it rarer than the original steel version.

Extremely few models were fitted with a white dial, such as the present watch. We would like to thank the Audemars Piguet Heritage Department for their information.
