Iconeek is very proud to introduce here a superb and rare large vintage Royal Oak with deep purple and diamond-set dial. According to our research, the present watch was made in 1981 and is a reference 5402 SA.  The model is an extremely fine and rare, octagonal, self-winding, water-resistant, stainless steel and 18k pink gold wristwatch with date and a stainless steel and 18k pink gold Audemars Piguet link bracelet with deployant safety clasp.The model comes with a two-body construction: a large polished and brushed stainless steel water-resistant case, an 18K yellow gold octogonal bezel with flat sapphire crystal secured by eight white gold screws and nuts to the case.

Under the sapphire crystal, we find an highly unusual and highly attractive, eye-catching, patinated purple-color dial with tapisserie decoration, applied diamond-set indexes, gold hands, applied gold Audemars Piguet logo at 12 and an aperture for the date at 3. This type of dial can be found on the white gold version with a white gold applied AP logo at 12, however on the gold and steel version it is extremely rare to find one.

Inside ticks a caliber AP 2121, self-winding, rhodium-plated, fausses cotes decoration, 36 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, Gyromax balance adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions, shock absorber, self-compensating flat balance spring, 21K gold rotor. Dial, case and movement are signed.

Produced in very small quantities, this reference 5402 BA is the 133th example  to have been manufactured by the firm in steel and gold. This bi-color Jumbo is probably amongst the rarest variants of the original reference 5402 fitted with such a dial. Launched in 1972, designed by Gerald Genta, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic wristwatch designs of the 20th century and is more and more sought-after each year by collectors worldwide.

With its impressive dial, diamond-set markers perfectly complementing the screws of the bezel, presented in superb overall condition, the present watch is a rare opportunity for collectors of luxury sports watches.
