Chronometre à Resonance

F.P JOURNE, CHRONOMETRE A RESONANCE, COLLECTION SOUVERAINE, PLATINUM

ICONEEK price: SOLD

Iconeek is very proud to introduce here one of the most sought-after complication of the 21st century by master watchmaker F.P Journe. The present Resonance system platinum chronometer features the so-called phenomenon of resonance, applied to the science of horology. The model uses two entirely independent movements, sharing the same plate, which operate in harmony with each other for a precision that exceeds the established limits for mechanical wristwatches.

The physical phenomenon of acoustic resonance forms an integral part of our daily lives. When searching for a specific program on our radio, the radio crackles because the waves selected have not encountered other waves, those of the radio transmitter, until they become harmonized. When applied to a watch, it ensures an exceptional reliability and great precision. When you make a sudden movement, the two movements clash in opposite directions and gradually come to operate in harmony as a result of the force of resonance. Attracted by each other, they begin to oscillate in unison. This timepiece is the only precision chronometer that is not affected by the movements of the wearer. The balances oscillate in natural opposition, and therefore absorb shocks and compensate for disturbances, thus ensuring identical regularity, whether or not the watch is worn.

The Chronomètre à Résonance is an exceptional and unique creation in chronometer engineering and deserves a place in every important collection.First introduced in 1999, the Chronomètre à Résonance was launched one year later, being the second serial production watch by François-Paul Journe. In 2004, F.P Journe began manufacturing movements from solid18-carat gold, such as the present watch, while the earlier production was delivered on rhodium-plated brass movement. Since 2004, all Journe’s watches, from Souveraine and Octa collection, are fitted with these 18K gold movements. F.P Journe started to work this project in 1989, inspired by the work of others important and genius watchmakers such as Antide Janvier and Abraham Louis Breguet. To understand the principle of the Resonance, nothing better than the explanation of the Master himself, see video below.

Under the sapphire crystal, the white gold and silver dial with  two off-center and symetrical subsidiary guilloche silvered dials with painted Arabic numerals, below the constant seconds, white gold frames secured by three screws, blued steel hands. The large 40 mm. platinum case has downturned lugs, F.P. Journe’s signature thin crowns with the hand-made rope-like pattern, rounded large platinum bezel, platinum transparent case back secured by 6 screws.

Under the sapphire case back, we see the manual-winding, F.P. Journe caliber 1499.2 movement, in 18K pink gold, with 36 jewels, twin barrels, twin independent gear-train, straight-line lever escapements, monometallic 4-arm balances with 4 timing weights, self-compensating free-sprung flat balance springs (21,600 vph). The winding crown at 12 o’clock allows to adjust both time-zones and pulling the crown at 4 o’clock allows to synchronize the seconds’ hands. Trained eyes will notice that the power reserve indicator of this watch is « reversed » from the norm. Power reserve indication often starts at 0, when the watch need to wind, to finish at XX hours the maximum winding, like the fuel gauge. Here is beginning at 40 and progressing to 0, like in the marine chronometer clocks, in order to let the wearer how many hours passed since the last full winding. This watch comes with an original black F. P Journe strap and a platinum F.P Journe deployant clasp. Dial, case and movement are signed.

This amazing Chronomètre à Résonance watch is in close to mint condition and has perfect mechanical functionality.
