JAEGER-LECOULTRE, GEOPHYSIC 1958, LIMITED EDITION 300 PIECES

ICONEEK price: SOLD

Introduced in 2014, the Geophysic 1958 is a tribute to the iconic Geophysic, Chronometer, ref. E168, born in 1958 and produced only one year. To mark the 125th anniversary of the brand and the world’s first « international Geophysical year », a time of fundamental scientific and political developments on the initiative of the United States. This event took place from July 1st, 1957 to December 31, 1958. JLC created at the time one of the most advanced timekeepers on several points: accuracy, water-dust-humidity protected case, size, antimagnetic . Reasons why the vintage Geophysic is still today one of the most important models in JLC history, representing manufacturer’s highest values of craftsman ship, precision, robustness, aesthetic  purity and still elegance.

From the Limited Series Geophysic 1958 collection, the model is available in three versions: platinum, with 12-6 indexes and limited to 58 pieces, stainless steel with 3-6-9-12 indexes and cross hair dial, limited to 800 pieces, and a pink gold version, such as the present watch, with 3-6-9-12 indexes and cross hair dial, limited to 300 pieces.

Whereas the original model has a  35 mm diameter, the new model comes with a 38.9 mm polished and brushed 18K pink gold case that offers an anti-magnetic protection to 600 gauss, slightly curved lugs,  an inclined snap on bezel. The screwed case back features a Geophysic globe. Only 11.40 mm thick, the watch is water-resistant to 100 meters (10 bar).

Under the sapphire crystal, the off-white dial is set with applied baton and Arabic numerals indexes, a sweep center second, luminous sword hands, a cross-hair pattern. Trained eyes will notice that the painted 5-minute luminous dots are in fact on the inner bezel, whereas on the original they were reversed painted on the glass. The readable is perfect.

If the original model was manual winding with its caliber 488, our re-edition is now self-winding, with a tested 1000 hours,  caliber 898/1,  with 202 parts, mechanical, 29 jewels, self-winding, hack seconds mechanism, shock absorbers, special balance with regulating screws beating at 28’800 alt/h, ceramic ball-bearing for the rotor. The movement is officially certified chronometer by the COSC. With a delta of 5 seconds, the watch is extremely accurate. The power reserve is approx. 43 hours. This high-end wristwatch comes with a brown crocodile strap and an 18K pink gold JLC buckle. Dial, case and movement are signed.

Admirable in every points, JLC succeed with honor in re-introducing this landmark model. A finely tuned movement, an anti-magnetic cage, a limited edition with a sporty feel on the wrist, the Geophysic 1958 is a watch to consider.  Limited edition to only 300 pieces, the « new » Geophysic has every thing to continue the legend.  The actual retail price is approx. 16600.- Euros).
