Iconeek is proud to introduce here a nice, rare and  attractive, limited  edition, oversized, half-hunting cased stainless steel sweep seconds hour angle aviator’s watch, Longines, « Lindbergh », replica of the original Hour Angle Watch.

The hour angle watch was invented and designed by the renowned American aviator, Charles A. Lindbergh and introduced to the market in 1932. Lindbergh rose to international fame in 1927 when he became the first person to make a solo, non-stop Trans-Atlantic flight. As the accuracy of mechanical watches can be affected by conditions aboard ships and airplanes, the hour angle watch provided a means by which this variation could be readily calculated when used in conjunction with radio time signals. Considering the Earth will make one rotation of 360 degrees in 24 hour, a 12-hour dial is a useful tool for dividing up that distance over time. With the use of the inner rotating dial and the outer rotating bezel, an aviator could use the hands of the watch to effectively pinpoint his location on (or above) the globe.

Made in 1987 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Lindbergh’s first flight over the Atlantic Ocean, from New York to Paris, in 1927, the model comes with  a four-body construction: a large water-resistant stainless  steel case with downturned lugs, domed mineral crystal  and large ball-shaped winding  crown, a bi-directionnal rotating bezel, an hinged back cover engraved inside « Replica of the Original Longines Hour Angle Watch, designed by Col. Chs.A.Lindergh » and engraved outside with Longines logo, a snap on transparent  case  back.

Under the mineral glass, we find  a mint white dial with painted  large black radial Roman numerals, inner blue graduation, outer minute/second  railway division, blued  steel  Breguet hands, bi-directionnal revolving graduated silvered disc. Inside ticks a caliber Longines L878.4, mechanical, hand  wound, 17 jewels, shock-absorbers, monometallic 3-arm balance, self-compensating flat balance spring, gold chatons, straight line  lever escapement. Dial, case and movement  are signed.

A great tribute  (still using a manual winding) to a very iconic Longines model !

Condition: 9.7/10, new old stock, never worn, still retaining the  original sticker on the case back, full-set,  first owner.
