Speedmaster Ref. 2915-3

OMEGA, SPEEDMASTER PRE MOON, REF. 2915-3

ICONEEK price: SOLD

Iconeek is very proud to introduce here an extremely rare, superb and original overall condition  Pre Moon,  Speedmaster, by Omega, the legendary Ref. 2915-3.

Launched in 1957, the distinguished Speedmaster CK2915 was created by Pierre Moina, Chef of the Creation department at Omega, with the case designed by Claude Baillod. The watch is powered by the caliber 321, born 10 years earlier. Shock proof, antimagnetic, water-resistant to 60m, the model has  been designed to be  robust and fit every sports activities, with a superior reliability. The model was the first chronograph to feature a tachymeter scale on the bezel, hence rendering the dial more legible while simplifying the calculation of speed.  The outer tachymeter allows to measure the speed of a car till 300 km/h (the models after were upgraded to 500km/h).

According to scholars,  the Omega Speedmaster CK2915 is the rarest Speedmaster model in the market, as only about 3,000 to 4,000 examples were produced. Very rarely seen in the secondary market, the present 2915-3 is preserved in great overall condition still retaining the original Alpha hands and black “base 1000” bezel.  According to the Archive of Omega, the present watch was delivered to Switzerland, on June 25th, 1959. The model was made in 1959 only and can be considered as  a transitional model between the references 2915-2 and 2998 with which the 2915-3 shares many features.

Object of all desires for a large number of collectors, this very exclusive reference has been released in three versions: 1, 2 and 3 (such as the present lot). The 2915-1 was the first Speedmaster ever produced,  the ref. 2915-2 came shortly after and they are very similar to each other, They differ from each other only in small details and graphic variation. Ref. 2915-3, third series,  is considered as a transitional model between the references 2915-2 and 2998,  with which the 2915-3 shares the alpha hands and the bezel with black insert. For such, the model is really a  great vintage among all the Speedmaster ever produced, because its overall design and looking has remain a desirable objet over the  years.

This 2915-3 immediately surprises for the conditions of its unpolished stainless steel tonneau-shaped Huguenin Freres case, with correct 4 mm. round small pushers (1957-1964) narrow flat feet original crown (1957-1969). The screwed case back is engraved with the visible Seahorse logo and is fitted with a double bevel (1959-1967) edge. The model has a three-body construction: a water-resistant large tonneau-shaped symmetrical case with straight lugs and hesalite crystal, a snap on black bezel bearing the tachymeter scale till 300 units, a screwed case back.

Trained eyes will also notice the original polished steel cap over the movement. The model is powered by a caliber 321, copper colored, with 17 jewels, straight line lever escapement, self-compensating blued steel Breguet balance spring, monometallic balance with timing screws, shock absorbers, column-wheel mechanism for the chronograph. the present caliber is featuring the correct first generation index regulator with elongated dart shape (the second generation being a lozange-shaped one) and also the correct first generation symmetrical shape chronograph clutch bridge (changed in 1964 for an asymmetrical one)

The present caliber 321, first generation (1957-1963), has never been touched or serviced since its delivery in 1959, and the screw heads are like new.  Protected in a safe for years, the bezel has not even change color. The present watch furthermore stands out by its amazing matte black dial, the black color beautifully harmonizing with the uniformly aged luminous material to numerals and hands, a pure beauty !

The present watch comes with a later original Omega black leather strap and later original Omega steel buckle. The size between the lugs is 18.80 mm. Dial, case and movement  are signed.  The watch is furthermore accompanied by an Omega Extract from the Archives. This reference is featured in Grégoire Rossier & Anthony Marquié, Moonwatch Only, The Ultimate Omega Speedmaster Guide, 2014, pp. 248-249.

Very rarely seen on the market and one of the scarcest references of the first Speedmasters, the present 2915-3 is preserved in great original condition, unpolished & unrestored, but moreover  is  fresh to the market!. A collector !!!

Condition: as good as any collector will love to find such  a rare watch, unpolished, unrestored, all parts originals, in working condition, never serviced, from the original owner, fresh to the market
