Iconeek is proud to introduce here a very nice, unusual and attractive automatic pvd-coated steel chronograph by Porsche Design and Orfina.

The model belongs to the earliest models featuring a pvd-coated case. The pvd-coated process is used to protect the pilot from the reflection of the lights on the watch and give the watches a harder protective cover, as well as a very unique look. The model has gained an iconic status when seen on the movie « Top Gun » on the wrist of Tom Cruise, in Pete « Maverick » Mitchell , character. Porsche Design was founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The collaborazion with Orfina led to this advance-for-his-time model featuring some stylistic elements still found on the modern IWC Top Gun versions.

The model comes with a two-body construction: a large water-resistant pvd-coated steel case with round chronograph pushers and screwed winding crown, a steel screwed case back. The case back is engraved inside « ORFINA WATCH LTD ». The model comes with a removable pvd-coated steel bracelet and deployant clasp. The approx. overall lenght is 190 mm.

Inside ticks a caliber Lemania 5100, mechanical, rhodium-plated, with 17 jewels, three-arm monometallic balance, shock absorbers, self-compensating flat balance spring, self-winding. The rotor is engraved « LEMANIA WATCH LTD » SWISS ». The caliber 5100 is also found in the Speedmaster Mark 4.5, under Caliber 1045 Omega.

Under the glass, we find a matte black dial with painted luminous baton indexes, outer minute and 1/5th second division, luminous blackened baton hands, orange chronograph hand, lolipop style hand for the central 60-minute register, three subsidiary dials for the 24 hour indication at 12, the constant second at 9, the 12-hour register at 6, apertures for the day (English) and date at 3, outer tachymeter scale on a black ring. Dial and bracelet signed Porsche Design, case signed Orfina, movement signed Lemania.

With great lume patina, early pvd-coated look, the watch has a truly unique and special look! an affordable watch to collect per sure!

Condition: 8.5/10, even more, a great example !! with very few signs of wear in places, due to casual wear.

the dial has naturally patinated,  movement in great condition too, a little miss of tritium in the hour hand.
