Launched in 2012, the Sky-Dweller is the most advanced calendar ever made by Rolex. Protected by 14 patents, the Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller provides the information global travelers need to keep track of time at a glance. The local time zone is indicated by the hands, while the second time zone may be independently adjusted without stopping the minutes and seconds hands. Accuracy is thus preserved. The 24-hour revolving central disc allows travelers to clearly distinguish daytime from nighttime hours. 

The Rolex Sky-Dweller is a very unusual and attractive dual-time wristwatch with a red triangle indicating the home time, while the conventional hands may be set to a second time zone. While the general dial layout is very similar to that of a simple Datejust, trained eyes will note the apertures along the dial’s edge, concentric to the Arabic hour numerals. These windows indicate the months. When the window next to 1 is white it is January, next to the 2 it is February, and so on. The Sky- Dweller’s annual calendar distinguishes between 30- and 31-day months and requires adjustment only once a year, at the end of February. The screwed winding crown is used to wind the watch and set the home and local time. The ribbed bezel can be turned to adjust the calendar functions. A selector wheel on the outside edge of the caliber regulates the interaction of the movement and the watch bezel, to set the Sky-Dweller’s functions. The Sky-Dweller is equipped with caliber 9001, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Introduced in 2012, this Swiss certified chronometer movement is one of the most complex calibers ever created by Rolex. The Sky-Dweller is not only an attractive Oyster and the most complicated calendar wristwatch ever created by Rolex, it is also a very useful everyday watch that is both mechanically sophisticated and easy to use.
