Powered by a Rolex quartz movement with dead-beat center-second, the present ref. 455 is one of the most iconic Rolex presentation chronometer desk clock produced in the 1980s for the Rolex's retailers. Using all the stylistics elements, who made the succes of the brand, such as the "mercedes" hands, the combination of round, baton and triangular indexes, the Cyclops lens in the acrylic glass to magnify the gold-rimmed date, the wood-effect lacquered dial, with matching bezel insert (such as the well-know gold Gmt-Master ref. 1675), a dead-beat center second (as the rare Beta 21 caliber), an heavy cylindrical inclined large gilt brass based with reeded sides (such as the bezel of the wristwatches). All setting buttons are hidden underneath the base.
Rare to find on the market, these unusual clocks are actually under covered. Produced in limited series for presentation to Rolex Retailers, this cult clock has to be on every Rolex's collector desk. A similar clock was sold through Christie's in New York on December 2013 for the sum of 13'000 USD.
